Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth

I can’t believe I didn’t read this book right when it came out, I am a crazy person. Divergent was a great book and I started it and finished it in two and a half hours straight (no breaks whatsoever).

The factions and how they worked really interested me and, like with all dystopians, the utopian world the people tried to create eventually failed but hey, it seemed like a good idea. The characters and the life they lived somehow managed to connect with my life now. Tris was easy to relate to and I liked that she wasn’t just some damsel in distress most of the time. There were a lot of scenes where she fought and showed off her girl power and I wish there would’ve been more.

Veronica Roth is a very good writer and I loved how when I was reading I felt like I was in the book. For me, that doesn’t happen often but when it does, I know the book is good.

I’m very partial to books that have love relationships that develop over time and not all at once so the overall relationships in this book disappointed me. There were plenty of cute scenes and such, and this might just be me but I wouldn’t love someone after a few weeks of just meeting them.

Divergent was a really good start to a series and I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.
